[To see translation, click on "comments" below.]

English Translation of Martha's post:
The reason that my father [Cruz Dumas] went to Europe is that he was manager at House of Fouorcade skin tanning company in Guaymas. He went to Europe to buy the chemicals needed in the leather tanning process. He worked at this place for most of his life since he was 14 years old. He grew up there. He was in Germany in 1914 when World War I broke out. Because of his last name [a french name?] they wouldn't let him leave to Mexico. He proved that he was Mexican and they let him go. I have the document that he used to prove that his nationality was Mexican. This document was issued to my father in the port of Hamburg, Germany. He was very young when he went to Germany, and he was widowed. He wasn't married very long. His [first] wife, Cuquita Morales, died giving birth. Both the baby and mother died the same as your uncle Max's wife Grace. [My father] married my mother, Concepcion Felix Escoboza in 1919. As I mentioned he made every effort to find out about his father, Pierre Julian, but in Marseilles where [Pierre Julian] was native, he could not find anything. I think that the Frencman was very young when he was a soldier of Maximiliano's. My father [Cruz] did not marry again for nine years and that is why all the cousins in Guaymas are older than us of the Dumas Felix family of Guaymas.

[Translation: Not so much my father Cruz B. Dumas Uriarte but my uncle Julian Dumas Uriarte told us that the Frenchman was from Marseilles]
